As you can see by the articles in this newsletter, this is been a busy month for accelerator health physics! Many of us in the Health Physics Society's (HPS's) Accelerator Section have been very busy preparing for the 2007 annual meeting, the 2008 midyear meeting on "Radiation-Generating Devices," and the 2008 professional development school on "Topics in Accelerator Health Physics," which will immediately follow the midyear meeting.
The Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) has been busy, too, preparing guidance for those affected by the Energy Policy Act of 2005, "Treatment of Accelerator Produced and Other Radioactive Material as Byproduct Material." We are fortunate to present an invited paper from Andrew Mauer summarizing this guidance.
Others at Louisiana State University's Center for Advanced Microstructures and Devices (CAMD) and at Fermi National Accelerator Lab (Fermilab) have been busy as well. Of particular interest is the annual report from Fermilab on their As Low As Reasonably Achievable (ALARA) Program.
Finally, we have announcements of two very interesting events coming up this summer: the next U.S. Particle Accelerator School to be held in Lansing, Michigan, and the Eighth International Topical Meeting on Nuclear Applications and Utilization of Accelerators (AccApp'07) to be held in Pocatello, Idaho.
So as busy as it has been, hold onto your hats because it sounds like the pace will continue! That makes it all the more important to take time for yourself during your busy day. So relax for a minute, read through this newsletter, and come away refreshed.
