The Los Alamos National Laboratory operational health physics team and the radiation detection instrument team are preplanning an experiment to measure and document the response of radiation-detection instruments of all types to pulsed radiation fields. Currently, several labs from the U.S. and some in Europe have agreed to participate. The goal is to obtain data from accelerators with many different pulse rates, send a set of standard radiation-detection instruments to every site, and compile the results in a publication when the experiment is complete. In this way, we hope to limit the need to travel, given the current budget crunch. Anyone who has an interest in this experiment is invited to participate. You can email Scott Walker or Alan Justus for information or participation.
