The Editor's Message

Linnea Wahl

This issue of the newsletter brings sad news of the death of Tony Sullivan. In his honor, his friends have prepared a brief review of Dr. Sullivan’s many scientific accomplishments and contributions, which attests to the fact that he will be dearly missed by his colleagues in the accelerator health physics community around the world.

Also in this issue, Accelerator Section President Kamran Vaziri reminds us that another year has passed and a new board of directors will begin their term directly following the annual section business meeting in July. Among the new officers will be a new newsletter editor. I can’t name any names, but I know you’ll be pleased with what you see in the next issue. Please start thinking now about the articles you want to submit for the inaugural issue under new management.

If you’re still on the fence about attending the annual meeting of the Health Physics Society in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, this issue includes a few abstracts from the special accelerator session that will be held on Tuesday morning, July 15. This glimpse of things to come just may help you make up your mind.

Finally, please take a minute to catch up with the news at the Spallation Neutron Source at Oak Ridge National Lab. They have clearly been working hard to keep workers’ doses as low as reasonably achievable (ALARA)—and succeeding.

For my last word as newsletter editor, I’d like to express my gratitude to all who have submitted articles over the years, shared ideas about the newsletter, and provided encouragement when times got crazy. Simply put, many thanks to you all.
