Another annual Health Physics Society (HPS) meeting has come and gone, and again, the members of the Accelerator Section outdid themselves! Not only was the Accelerator Section Special Session a great success (see Lutz Moritz’s presentation later in the newsletter), but special congratulations are due to two of our members, Lorraine Marceau-Day and Scott Schwahn.
Lorraine was honored with induction into the select group of HPS Fellows. Fellowship is bestowed on outstanding HPS members as a result of their significant administrative, educational, and/or scientific contributions to the profession of health physics. They are nominated by an HPS member and their nomination is accompanied by letters of support from three existing HPS Fellows.
Lorraine’s accomplishments were recognized at the June 27, 2006, Awards Reception and Banquet. She and her fellow Fellows stood to the appreciative applause of the gathered members. Congratulations, Lorraine, on this well-deserved honor.

Scott was also honored by the HPS as the 2006 recipient of the Elda E. Anderson Award. The Elda E. Anderson Award is presented each year to an outstanding young member of the HPS for excellence in research or development, discovery or invention, or other significant contributions to the profession of health physics. Scott clearly meets and exceeds these criteria, as shown by his gracious and articulate acceptance speech at the June 27 Awards Reception and Banquet. Congratulations, Scott, on your recognition of excellence by the HPS.
We have the HPS’s ace photographer, Casper Sun, to thank for photos commemorating Lorraine’s and Scott’s awards. In addition, check out the pictures of other Accelerator Section members enjoying the meeting. For those who couldn’t attend the annual HPS meeting in Providence, Rhode Island, we hope to see you in next year’s photos!
