The President-Elect's Message

Kamran Vaziri

The 2006 Accelerator Section Special Session at the annual Health Physics Society (HPS) meeting in Providence, Rhode Island, went very well. We had good attendance from the section members. Thanks to Lorraine and Scott, we had excellent speakers who gave fascinating talks.

I hope to have a repeat performance in 2007 in Portland, Oregon. I have included my call for abstracts below. Please encourage students to submit their papers. To develop more future health physicists, especially in the field of accelerators, the section should award the Wade Patterson Award every year.

There has been an incredible amount of work going on by the Northern California Chapter and the Accelerator Section in preparation for the 2008 midyear meeting and professional development school (PDS). We hope the two-track PDS will have good reception. The first track is similar to the formats of previous schools. The second track covers fewer subjects, but the subjects are treated in much more depth. The dual tracks are intended to provide good training grounds for health physicists and others who are new to these areas of expertise.

Call for Abstracts for 2007 Annual Meeting

It is time to plan for our next Accelerator Section Special Session for the 2007 annual meeting of the Health Physics Society. The next annual meeting will be held in Portland, Oregon, July 8-12, at the Portland Convention Center.

If you have been working on an exciting, accelerator-related project, please consider submitting an abstract for the annual HPS meeting in Portland. If you have a student or a colleague who can report on an interesting project, please encourage them to submit an abstract. You can always sponsor the nonmembers.

The form and instructions for submitting abstracts for the 2007 HPS annual meeting are available on-line. Deadline for receipt of abstracts is January 26, 2007.

Should you have abstracts ready, or at least a title of your proposed topic, I would appreciate receiving a copy as soon as possible to begin planning the session. To assist in planning the 2007 Accelerator Section Special Session, kindly submit proposed abstract titles to me. This will help us organize a logical flow for the talks and/or posters.
