Answer to Question #1263 Submitted to "Ask the Experts"

The following question was answered by an expert in the appropriate field:

Q
I'm working on an SOP covering the occupational monitoring restriction of employees who have undergone medical radiopharmaceutical treatment. It seems that most facilities have simply gone with a multiple of the radiological half-life—which is unsatisfactory for several applications. I have found websites listing mrem/µCi for numerous radioisotopes by application, but what I really need is a reference which lists whole-body effective half-life by radioisotope by mode of introduction. Is there something like that out there?
A
I am currently running a website with a variety of information on dosimetry. On the page under "Diagnostic Applications" you can download an Excel spreadsheet that has dose estimates for a number of radiopharmaceuticals but, also, there is a "Kinetic Models" tab that gives some standardized kinetic models for these compounds. Most of these data came from ICRP Publications 53 and 80, which I would recommend for your reading shelf on this subject. They list many of the original references for the data and give far more detail than you can list in a spreadsheet.
