Are employers required to post the results of film badges for their employees who work in radiology?
A
If your employer has a license from the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC), the licensee is required (pursuant to 10 CFR Part 19.13) to "advise each worker annually of the worker's dose as shown in the records maintained by the licensees pursuant to the provisions of 10 CFR Section 20.2106." If your employer is licensed by an Agreement State, which is a state that has signed a formal agreement with the NRC to regulate certain by-product, source, and special nuclear material (which would include medical), then those state regulations would also have a regulation similar to Part 19.13 above which would require notification, not necessarily posting, of a worker's annual dose. To find the specific regulation citation, please contact the state directly. You can find a listing of states involved with radiation control programs from the Conference of Radiation Control Directors. Currently there are 32 Agreement States: Alabama, Arizona, Arkansas, California, Colorado, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Mississippi, Nebraska, Nevada, New Hampshire, New Mexico, New York City (including New York Environment, New York Health, New York Labor), North Carolina, North Dakota, Ohio, Oklahoma, Oregon, Rhode Island, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, and Washington.
