I am considering becoming an MRI [magnetic resonance imaging] technologist, but as a prerequisite I will have to work for some time as an x-ray technologist. My concern is that this presents a significant radiation hazard—particulary to an unborn child should I become pregnant at any time. Are my concerns well founded, or are there adequate safeguards?

Your information about the reproductive risk of working in a radiological department are incorrect. You are closely monitored to make certain that your exposures do not increase your reproductive risks. Of course there is not even a theoretical concern about increased reproductive risks while working with MRI equipment.
