Answer to Question #373 Submitted to "Ask the Experts"Category: Environmental and Background Radiation — Software The following question was answered by an expert in the appropriate field: Q
What software packages are out there to track isotope usage for a research institution (incoming, decay, waste, shipments, etc.)? A
There are two primary software packages available, HP Assistant and RS Solutions 2000. HP Assistant is available through OnSite Systems, located in St. Louis. The phone number is 314-963-9934. RS Solutions 2000 is available through the Smart Data Solution website, by email, or by phone at 404-233-9441. A demo of the software can be downloaded from the Website. However, setup takes about 10 minutes. Both software packages provide a pretty full array of administrative coverage, including dose reports, PI permit limits, waste tracking, inventory, sealed source tracking, instrument calibration data, x-ray machines, inspection tracking, and so forth. Both also cost approximately the same with similar annual maintenance fees. They both have their individual strengths and weaknesses, and it would be best for anyone interested to test the programs out themselves and to contact users of each program.
